About This Trip
Western Australia is huge and empty, and this 11-day private trip covers its two extremes. You start in Broome, where camels walk Cable Beach and the pearl trade built the town, then head up the Dampier Peninsula to a working pearl farm on Cygnet Bay. From there you take a boat to Horizontal Falls, where the tide forces seawater through two narrow gaps in the cliffs.
You then fly south to Perth for Kings Park, Fremantle, the quokkas of Rottnest Island and a night among the limestone pillars of the Pinnacles Desert. It is a tailor-made trip with private transfers, a mix of private and shared tours, and one domestic flight, and it suits travelers who want remote coast and city in one trip.

Itinerary
- Day 1: Arrive in Broome
Your driver meets you at Broome airport and takes you to your hotel, only about 10 minutes away. Check in and rest. In the late afternoon, walk to Cable Beach for the sunset, when the sand turns orange and the camels walk the shoreline. Swim only where it is patrolled, since stingers and crocodiles are a risk in the warmer months.
- Broome
- Day 2: Broome’s Pearls and History
Visit the Broome Historical Museum, which explains how pearling brought divers from Japan, Malaysia and Indonesia and shaped the town. Stop at Matso’s Brewery for a drink on the veranda, known for its mango and ginger beers. In the afternoon, visit the crocodile park to see saltwater crocodiles up close, including a feeding session. This day uses a shared tour, with private transfers between stops.

- Broome
- Day 3: Coast and Heritage
Drive to Gantheaume Point to see the red cliffs, and look for dinosaur footprints in the rocks at very low tide only. Continue to Entrance Point and Town Beach on Roebuck Bay, then visit the Japanese Cemetery, the resting place of hundreds of pearl divers. Finish with free time on the beach. The afternoon is hot, so we start early.

- Broome
- Day 4: Broome to Cygnet Bay
Travel by 4WD up the Dampier Peninsula, about 3-4 hours with stops, and visit the Sacred Heart Church at Beagle Bay, whose altar is made of mother-of-pearl. Arrive at Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm and check in to your safari tent. The evening is free, and the sky is very dark here.

- Cygnet Bay
- Day 5: Horizontal Falls
Spend a full day on the water to see Horizontal Falls, where huge tides squeeze through two gaps in the cliffs and create a sideways waterfall. The boat can’t pass through at every tide, and the timing follows the water. A four-course breakfast and a seven-course lunch are served on board, and your guide explains the geology and the tides.

- Cygnet Bay
- Day 6: Cygnet Bay at Your Own Pace
Tour the pearl farm to see how oysters are seeded and harvested, and learn why Broome pearls are prized. Optional extras include a cultural experience with Bardi Jawi guides and a cruise along the coast. We name the operator before you book. Spend the rest of the day swimming, resting or walking the beach.

- Cygnet Bay
- Day 7: Fly to Perth
Drive back to Broome after breakfast, then fly to Perth, about 2.5 hours. The two cities share a time zone, so there is no jet lag. Your driver takes you to your hotel, and the afternoon is free for a walk by the Swan River.
- B
- Perth
- Day 8: Kings Park and Fremantle
Visit Kings Park, high above the river, on a guided walk where a Whadjuk Noongar guide shares the uses of bush plants. Then drive to Fremantle for a shared tour of the old prison, a UNESCO site, and browse the market. End the day with a coffee at Cottesloe Beach.

- Perth
- Day 9: Rottnest Island
Take the ferry from Hillarys, under an hour, to Rottnest Island, home of the quokkas. Spend the day cycling the coastal track, swimming in sheltered bays or snorkeling if you like. Don’t feed the quokkas, as it is illegal and harms them. Return by ferry in the late afternoon.

- Perth
- Day 10: Pinnacles Desert
Relax in the morning, then drive about 2-2.5 hours north to the Pinnacles, thousands of limestone pillars in a yellow desert. Watch the sunset light on the rocks, then stay for stargazing with dinner. The Milky Way is clearest on moonless nights, and you return to Perth around 11 pm.

- Day 11: Depart from Perth
Your driver takes you to Perth airport, about 20-30 minutes away depending on traffic. After a late night, the morning should be easy, so tell us your flight time in advance. If your flight is late, we can add a last stop at Kings Park or the river.
