A trip with Royalairtrip allows you to have a tour with freedom and flexibility. You decide where to visit, when to see, what to eat and where to stay.
How many days do I need in Azerbaijan?
Azerbaijan is a destination that rewards those who take their time. A minimum of 5 days is needed to cover Baku's Old City (Icherisheher), the Flame Towers, Gobustan Rock Art, and mud volcanoes. For a fuller experience, 7–10 days allows you to explore Sheki's historic caravanserais, Ganja's gardens, and the scenic Caucasus mountain villages of Lahij and Xinaliq. If you are combining Azerbaijan with Georgia and Armenia for a complete Caucasus journey, plan for 12–15 days — this gives you breathing room to enjoy each country without rushing. Royal Air Trip offers customized itineraries for all durations, so whether you have 5 days or 15, we craft the perfect journey for you.
Is it common to use credit cards in Azerbaijan?
Credit cards are widely accepted in Baku's hotels, restaurants, shopping malls, and major tourist attractions. International cards like Visa and Mastercard work well at most upscale establishments in the capital. However, once you venture outside Baku — into rural villages, local bazaars, small guesthouses, and mountain towns — cash is king. The local currency is the Azerbaijani Manat (AZN). We strongly recommend:
- Carrying AZN 200–300 in cash for outside Baku
- Exchanging money at official exchange offices (better rates than hotels)
- Informing your bank before travel to avoid card blocks
- Using ATMs in Baku to withdraw local currency
Is it safe to visit Azerbaijan?
Yes, Azerbaijan is a very safe and welcoming country for tourists. Baku is a modern and well-patrolled city with a low crime rate and a strong police presence in tourist areas. The government has invested heavily in tourism and security in recent years making it one of the safer destinations in the region. As with any international travel, it is always wise to stay alert in crowded areas and keep an eye on your belongings. If you plan to visit mountain regions, it is recommended to go with an experienced guide as weather conditions can change quickly. Our Royal Air Trip guides are available around the clock during your tour to assist you with anything you need.
Is English widely used in Azerbaijan?
English is comfortably spoken in Baku at hotels, airports, major tourist attractions, and upscale restaurants so you will have no difficulty communicating in the capital. However outside Baku, Russian is more commonly used as a second language especially among older generations. In rural villages and mountain areas locals may only speak Azerbaijani. Learning a few basic Azerbaijani words like Salam for hello and Chokh sah-ol for thank you goes a long way and is warmly appreciated by locals. All Royal Air Trip guides are fluent in both English and Azerbaijani so language will never be a problem during your trip with us.
Can I combine my visit to Azerbaijan with another country?
Absolutely. Azerbaijan's location in the heart of the Caucasus region makes it a perfect starting point for multi-country travel. The most popular combination is Azerbaijan with Georgia and Armenia, which takes around 12 to 15 days and covers ancient churches, wine regions, mountain scenery, and vibrant modern cities. Another great option is combining Azerbaijan with Turkey for a rich cultural experience covering Baku, Istanbul, and Cappadocia in around 10 to 12 days. For nature and adventure lovers, Azerbaijan combined with Georgia over 8 to 10 days offers stunning mountain landscapes and trekking routes. History enthusiasts can also explore the ancient Silk Road by combining Azerbaijan with Iran visiting cities like Tabriz and Tehran. Royal Air Trip's popular 14 day Caucasus Combo Tour covers all the highlights of Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Armenia in one seamless journey with flights, hotels, guides, and transfers all included.
