Leave Naples and head to the Amalfi Coast, where the road clings to cliffs above the water. Stop in Positano to wander its steep lanes and ceramic shops, and have lunch with a sea view. Allow extra time, since traffic on this road can be heavy in summer. Continue to Sorrento for the evening.

- Day 4: Capri by Boat
Take the ferry from Sorrento to Capri and board a traditional wooden boat for a trip around the island, with limestone cliffs, sea caves and coves that cars can’t reach. Spend the rest of the day in Capri town or Anacapri, or just swim and lunch by the water. If the sea is rough and ferries are cancelled, we swap this for a Sorrento coast day.
